The Divine Mercy Chaplet: how to pray it, history and promises
· 10 min read
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy was revealed by Jesus Christ to Saint Faustina Kowalska in the 1930s. Jesus asked her to spread this prayer as a "last plank of salvation" for the world.
Promises of Jesus
Jesus promised to envelop with His mercy those who pray it, especially at the hour of death. He also promised that if prayed beside a dying person, He will stand between the Father and the soul as a merciful Savior.
How to pray the Chaplet
- Begin with an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and the Creed.
- On the large beads (of the Our Father), pray:
"Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world."
- On the 10 small beads, pray:
"For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."
- At the end of the five decades, say three times:
"Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world."
